A story from Greece

Persephone, my one and only love.

I don't know if at the time of writing this letter, I write with the ink of my pen or with the tears of joy languishing your return.

Although your departure has frozen my kingdom, my heart, my soul and my whole being are ablaze. Everywhere that you ever leave cries after your departure and now I understand the sadness of Demeter when you are with me. You truly are her daughter, you have managed to resurface my love that has been hidden for thousands of years.

When Zeus condemned me to govern Hell, I thought that he had removed from me any feeling of love. I thought love was only mirage and illusion, no person could exist to love only women, but I was wrong.

My eyes hurt from crying at your absence, you live in my mind and every time I think about you, your absence is even more painful. Is this the dying man's agony? I am immortal, and yet time is against me, every moment brings me closer to your return home, but also brings me closer to your departure again.

I am from time immemorial in the company of hundreds of thousands of souls. I am their guardian and yet I feel so lonely without you. I made so many mistakes; perhaps it is those which led me here. However my love for you is like a star, I see you for a few moments but your beauty is so intense it illuminates my entire kingdom. Not long separates us now my love, I'm waiting for you, come, I'm waiting for you.

Your loving husband, Hades.

A different way of life

Who are the Amish and what are their beliefs?

The Amish are a group of people who live in America and Canada who are strong followers of Christianity. They are descendants of  the Anabaptists and appear for the first time in Europe in 1693. Many reasons encouraged this community and many others  to leave Europe and to move elsewhere (wars, etc.).. They settled in America around 1730, in Pennsylvania more precisely. But, even in this country they had suffered other war (the War of Independence in the 18th century for example).
Because of their religious beliefs, this community try to separate themselves from the rest of the American or Canadian’s population to avoid sin. Also, Amish clothing styles encourage humility and separation from the world. The family is the most important in the Amish culture. It's common to see  families of  ten children. The majority of Amish are  affiliated with  of religious orders and the largest  is The Old Order Amish. The religious beliefs of Amish  and  aspects of  their life are dictated by  specific rules :  for example "belts are forbidden",   "married men have to let their beards grow,  Amish women are not permitted to wear jewelry and the Divorce is not permitted.

My opinions on the aspects of their culture

They have many practices which are not conventional. One of these is that they do not allow the using of any technology in their villages (like the internet or electric power). This is very rare for modern people to not use technology and it is different to most western people. Also, they do not follow the normal schools of the rest of North America. Personally, it is not right to learn without computers, nowadays there is no country that does not use them. I would find this hard to cope with because I have done all of my studies with computers. They do not drive cars because they do not have trust in them so they do not see all of their country. They only live in one village for their entire lives and this is boring. . All of that is strange for me and shocking.

A brief overview of the attacks

In Ohio, in America there have been many hate crimes which have been committed by Samuel Mullett and other people. There is a local feud in the community between different groups. He has done many things that are called evil by other people in the community. If they are all part of the same minority community then why are they fighting. They should support each other.

What's wrong with our education system?

1)
It keeps poor children poor and creates an excuse culture which is the inability to allow children to be responsible for themselves. This has created a culture of privilege where children will turn up to exams without a pen because they expect to be given one. Also there is poor behavior of students alongside a system which does not allow discipline of students

2)
According to the teacher the problem exists because of the excuse culture. Everybody thinks that the failure of a student comes from their background and not because of their responsibility towards their studies. Teachers are afraid to speak out because they don’t want to embarrass other teachers or shame their school. The school culture has moved away from the idea that people should feel responsible for themselves.

3)
The Labour Minister agrees with the teacher, he says that Labour did try to correct the education system whilst in power, but did not create a system that worked for everybody. He insists that sometimes there are genuine reasons why children behave badly.
The Conservative Minister agrees, and adds that the complaints culture damages the system, because teachers can’t do their job properly for fear of being suspended.
Neither party accepts responsibility for the failings of the education system and the teacher says that she does not blame either party, the system has been failing for a long time.

4)
She suggests “Right wing thinking” namely being responsible for yourself, both teachers and pupils, as well as holding people to account – making sure people are responsible for their actions. It should not be guaranteed that a student will keep his place at school despite any misbehavior, because they feel that they can get away with anything.

5)
She would want to empower teachers and headteachers to be able to bring discipline in their schools and giving them more freedom to teach. She says that Local Authorities play too big a role in schools at the moment. We should trust our teachers. Exams should be made harder, because they’re getting easier and easier every year, but no one accepts responsibility.

  • I/ Mr Bean writting exam:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ocd1D8fwdjU&NR=1&feature=fvwp

Mr Bean came to the exam quickly by his car because he didn’t want to miss the exam. He was so stressed even he caused an accident. However, he didn’t care for him the time is the most important thing. Before the beginning of the exam he teased his college and he showed that he is so confident and he is ready to answer all the questions. However when the exam started, he was surprised by the question. He tried more than one time to cheat from the paper of his college. One time, he threw his pen in such a way that he had possibility to see the answers of his college. But finally he couldn’t. He was so depressed. He lost the hope of getting any answer from his college’ paper. He was so sad and asked for help from his mom!. At the end of the exam ,he discovered that there was an extra paper to answer. He knew the answer of these new questions so he started to write very quickly. However, the professor mentioned that the student should stop writing. He tried to cheat and wrote. But finally he forced to stop writing. Poor Mr. Bean, he was unlucky.

The day before exam I revise with my friends if they want. However, I prefer to revise alone. I prepare the pen, draft papers and some tools I need it in some special exam. I sleep well the day before to wake up early. On the morning, I try to go over the most important things in the subject so the informations will be well structured in my mind. Then I take a good breakfast and get relax. I try to go as early as possible. I don’t try to concentrate in what will come in the exam in order to not be stressed. When I sit down I convince myself by saying: “I can do it” so that I feel comfortable. Then I try to read all the questions. I will start answering the easiest questions as quickly as possible in order to save the time for the harder questions. I always ask my professor about the remaining time and that stress other students in the class but I don’t care. Finally, I read again all my answers to make sure that all of them are good. Even though, sometimes I finish answering the question before the end of the time; I prefer to stay in the class waiting my friends.
